Sunday 7 September

Slightly cool afternoon here (14C / 57F), with occasional glimpses of sunshine. Emptied my camera's battery with 127 photographs of commercial (and remarkable private) properties in the town centre. You can freely wander about in the roadway with near-complete impunity on Sundays here, getting that just-perfect angle. During the week I wouldn't dream of standing in the middle of South Beach Street outside the bus station...

One man has died and four other people were injured in the crash at Daliburgh, South Uist, last night (Saturday). Initially, five were reported hurt, but one has now succumbed to his injuries. My sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased; South Uist is a small but very tightly knit community. It later transpired that the deceased was a 19-year old member of a football team from Iochdar, South Uist, returning home from a match in Eriskay with four teammates, who were all injured.
