I'll be having to make some choices in the near future, as to which sites to use for social networking. At the moment, I'm keeping this blog, reading about 300 blogs on Google Reader, I'm on Facebook, I'm on Twitter - cripes, I'll be chained to this here computer all day if I'm not careful. Hey! I already am (chinking noises in background as he moves in his chains).
With regards to the blogs, there are less than 100 that I actually keep up to date with; and I'll have to scrap a heap of applications on Facebook. There are about 300 of them in use as well. I may end up using Twitter on special occasions, as I can update there by mobile phone. I can also do that with Facebook, as some will have noticed on days I am travelling to and from Holland.
So, how do you cope with your Internet commitment?
I'm not so social as you so have no problem with the few journals I read. Facebook just doen't work for me so I avoid it most of the time. Consider your self blessed with so many friends.
ReplyDeleteI have a long time habit of reading so many books a month, and I find that I can't give that up either, and so my eyes suffer if I try to read too many blogs, too. Balancing such activities is hard! Doc loves to make videos, so I have to do those periodically too, or he gets very frustrated and that is not to be desired! I have settled for reading the blogs I have come to enjoy and not trying to take on more I know i don't have time for, and books are getting read, and movies are even beng seen and reviewed, like today. I was invited to Twitter but decided I could not make that leap, as I forget I also have a family website to keep up with, plus 4 kids, grandkids, sisters, etc. to visit, phone and so on. I do enjoy reading how others juggle their interests!
ReplyDeletehi there...I just consider the things I have to do in "real" life and then consider the things I want to do on line. I do what I have to do and reserve some time on line. What I do on line is what suits me the most. Lately it has been facebook more than blogging. I'm sure it will flip flop as time passes. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm addicted to Facebook, just to keep up quickly with all my friends and family. I love reading blogs, but have found it absolutely impossible to read every entry of every blog I enjoy... so I just read when I can, and depend on FB to let me know if there are any urgencies I should know about. I decided recently that there's just no way I can add twitter to my daily activities, too... in fact, I won't add anything else online, this is enough for me.
ReplyDeleteYou just need to weed out the googlereader stuff, and skim as you can. I have to say that I do like Facebook better, you can leave quick and suscienct comments.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I must admit the thing I like most about Facebook is the applications. I like building a farm and all the "green" things. Keeps me occupied and doesn't take a whole lot of thought. Twitter, I'm not sure of. I won't give up Blogger because that's still my first love. I at least want to keep up with my old friends from JLand. I'm making the choices now of just what I want to keep up with and what I don't.
ReplyDeleteI'm fortunate in that I'm not working, so I have more time. However, I don't want to be chained to the computer, as you wrote. I don't comment on every entry, and Google reader is a nice way to read multiple blogs. I like Facebook (although I've started ignoring most apps) and think it's a nice supplement to Blogger--a quick and easy way to write a line or two, or post videos and news stories.

I'm way behind~that's all I know. I just read them as I can. Linda in Washington
ReplyDeleteI guest blog on one or two different blogs here and there besides my own; Add in Facebook and Twitter now..it's interesting trying to juggle the time. I do know writing is extremely important to me, if I can't handle the extra sites they'll go first. For now it's a nice distraction. (Hugs)Indigo
ReplyDeletei do not understand Facebook as well as many...but i like it there and love having my friends from J land there. I have cut down on who i read on blogger from J land and just stay close to a few, like you.
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten a Facebook. Like I need more distractions...eesh...I've got my blog and a neglected MySpace. meh.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I'm beginning to feel a bit swamped by it all, as much as I enjoy reading blogs, but keeping up with Facebook is quite a lot of work as there are so many distractions on the too...lol
ReplyDeleteI have had twitter with a different blogger Blog and it can be added to your blogs, sometimes I feel it's a case of information overload.

I didn't even remember I signed up for Twitter - doubt I will be going there often. Facebook is fun but overwhelming and takes alot of time. I have so many requests I haven't even looked at!! Keeping up with blogs is hard enough and with spring coming and all the work to do on the farm my time will be even more limited. I do the best I can.
