Amsterdam crash

Nine people are known to have died when Turkish Airways flight 1951 came down near Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, at 0931 GMT this morning. The Boeing 737-800 broke up into three pieces. Eye witnesses state that survivors started to emerge immediately after the plane came to a halt. It was seen to stall, then crash to the ground. The crash site is close to the A9 motorway, which was closed whilst motorists stopped to look.

Schiphol Airport has since reopened, allowing a plane to land which is carrying friends and family of those on board. The cause of the crash is not yet known, but a loss of power appears likely.

  2. Strange all the plane incidents all of the sudden. Me thinks I'll stay planted on the ground, although that may not be the safest place either. :(

  3. That is three in about a month.
We analyse these tragic incidences in an effort to find the fault, be it human or technology related.
However we never question the unknowns such as destiny.
    Do you believe in destiny?

  4. Thanks for this posting. As my co-workers and I are involved in engineering for the 737-800, we're interested in knowing why they crash. We can't make them crash-proof, but we try.

Prayers for those who survived and for the families of those who died.

  5. Have been hearing about that on the news here this morning. So sad...officials from the Boeing Company have already left Seattle for the crash site. I know you've flown in and out of that airport, so it must have been sort of surreal to hear this news. We're glad you were not on that plane. Linda in Washington state

  6. I just saw this crash on the Internet but did not realize it was in Amsterdam. I do hate so to hear about any airplane crash. For I cannot think of any accident that would be more terrifying. More die than survive when airplanes go down. So sad.

  7. I don't live too far from where the plane went down in NY's Hudson River and then so many talented people died on the plane crash in Buffalo. It's scary how the planes seem to fall out of the sky. My prayers really do go out to all the families. Karen

  8. Guido, we are hearing tonight that there were 4 Boeing employees on this plane. On the 10 o'clock evening news it's reported that only one of the men has contacted his family that he's ok. No word at this point on the others. Meanwhile Boeing officials have left for Amsterdam.
