Wednesday 29 October

Nice quiet day in the islands today, if feeling a little cold at 6C / 43F. No snow, no wind, no rain. That has all moved south; Wales and Northern Ireland are getting it in the neck, if the Met Office are to be believed.

What I cannot believe is the amount of time it has taken the BBC to take action against two radio presenters who overstepped the mark last Friday. Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand telephoned actor Andrew Sachs (most famously the waiter Manuel in Fawlty Towers), spouting obscenities and claiming to have had sex with Sachs' granddaughter. This was aired on BBC Radio 2, but should have been axed in the first instance. Both are now suspended, following a nationwide outcry from Prime Minister Gordon Brown downward. I disliked Jonathan Ross at any rate, and Russell Brand sank the moment he walked off the set of a television show to go to the toilet - on air.

  1. Hi Guido, I love your sidebar. I still need to fix mine up, and hurry at that! LOL, not all my pics are friendly yet, I don't think. Ugh. I have come so late to this Blogger thing, but I WILL finish on time, I am determined! No, I didn't stop by to ask for help, I will stay up all night if I have to, LOL, I stopped by to say hello!

Uhm Your blog looks great! I love your layout.

By the way, the reason I stopped by is to tell you that Windows is scrapping VISTA. I am so excited. They are replacing it with another version. John told me this morning. He saw it on the news. They announced it on a major TV station here in the US. There are too many bugs in Vista, Windos decided. Beyond being fixable. So they are just getting rid of it, and are going to give us another version to download. I believe all of our stuff is going to be migratable with it, like email, bookmarks, etc. I am excited b/c I hated Vista anyway. My browser kept disappearing, LOL. YES, I hate so many CHANGES at once, but I will have to deal, just to get rid of the dreaded Vista.

    Okay, back to work...

    Bye for now, Krissy :)

  2. I had not seen they had been suspended Guido. It needs to go farther than that. Brand should not be allowed on t.v. full stop. He is disgusting. As for Ross, I do watch his show now and again because some of his guests are good, but I am appalled at his language, the inudendoes and worse he makes to female guests. That obscene salary he gets as well. As this is not the first time either of them has been in trouble, I would like to see Ross axed as well but I doubt the BBC has the guts to do it. My hope is that Sachs takes them both to court.

  3. What they did was very wrong but i think others need to take the blame as well. Only about 3 people complained, it was the papers constantly repeating what had been said that has caused a lot of people that did not even listen to the programme to put in a complaint. And why didn't the BBC stop it going out especially after asking Sachs if he minded it being aired and he said he did. Brand has resigned and Ross has been suspended but if the BBC had not aired it and the papers not kept writing about it which is keeping it going it would not have got so out of hand. It is the papers that is prolonging the pain of Sachs.

  4. Although i don't agree with what they did there was few complaints at the actual time...Then a newspaper got hold of it and it was blown out of all proportion...And Sachs granddaughter who is in a stripper troupe has admitted that she has slept with russel brand...She also had written on their myspace page saying how chuffed she was they got a mention on his show that time...So trying to act whiter than white on the news is wrong of her also and hurtful to her grandfather IMO...Doesn't mean that they should have done the prank calls though.

  5. They shouldn't have done the prank calls and IMO no class act there. Speaking of acts, isn't the granddaughter a stripper? Still no need to hurt the grandparents with the details. I guess I'm a little bit 'grandparent' sensitive these days as you might imagine. Those two radio characters should be sacked.
