When I unpacked my case upon returning to Stornoway, I found a disaster lurking in my toiletbag. The shampoo bottle (300 ml) had emptied itself into the bag, flooding everything with sticky goo. This included my poor wee alarmclock, which had stopped at 6.47. It is an analogue one, so it was hard to tell whether it had given up the ghost as I walked to the bus early in the morning, or on the flight to Inverness in the evening. Changing the battery and cleaning the poles did not help.
After walking in and out of all the shops in Stornoway (caution: exaggeration), I found myself a new clock for a few quid, so I can be up and about on time. Did I ever tell you that is usually around the 10am mark?
Between 9 & 10 am for me too. I stay up too late reading every night. I know it's too late now, but I always recommend putting shampoo & such things in separate Zip Lock bags. Then if something escapes it's container it doesn't mess up everything else in the suitcase. Happy to hear your back home safe & sound.
ReplyDeleteThat happened to me recently. It was quite a fun job cleaning out my bag.
ReplyDeleteMy dad once had this situation with a pickle jar(long story)..it is a hard to forget experience.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the joys of travel. I don't envy you, but I do empathize. I am an early riser: by 6:00 AM, but usually earlier.
ReplyDeleteOn a trip to FL I had a spray bottle of sunscreen in my large bag in a ziplock bag. Security opened the bag, took the bottle out of the zip lock, did not put it back in the zip lock and did not tighten the cap.
Imagine our surprise when we opened our suitcase to ruined silk blouses and trousers. Ah, but I was on vacation, so I went shopping!
Glad you found a new alarm clock to get you up and out on time.
Bummer! I've learned to put such things in a zip lock plastic bag after my bad experience with cosmetics.
