Friday 4 December

Brilliantly sunny today, if a tad on the breezy side and cool. I started writing this post at midday, but had to leave it due to work having to be carried out on the electrical systems in this house. Since then, the clouds have moved in and the wind has picked up. The overnight low was -3C, which is a sharp frost for these parts. However, if I hear from parts of the States which are already way down to -10C, I have no reason to complain.

I'll have to start thinking about Xmas cards, and I thought I had a list with addresses somewhere. Will have to dig around for a bit. The shops are now full of Christmas gear and the TV adverts are slowly but steadily driving me to distraction. People here in Stornoway are relieved as there will be a fireworks display for New Year after all. Initially, there was no money (it costs around £25k to put up a display), but some local enterprises have chipped in with contributions. At 12.30 am on January 1st, things will go bang in the night.

  1. We have fireworks here at Christmas and at New Year, not displays just ordinary people going mental and driving all the local animals nuts.
