I was checking the National Weather Service website when amongst all the possible alerts related to extreme weather featured a Child Abduction Alert. Curiosity drew me there - you can find it
here. It is an effective way of drawing the public's attention to such an emergency. But a bit strange on a weather site nonetheless.
Guido, yes, they've been doing this for a while now. It's called an Amber Alert, named after a little girl that was abducted. It's actually a pretty good idea, because the weather alert sounds they make on the radio are an attention-getter (especially in tornado-prone areas such as where we live), and everyone pays attention when they hear that sound.
ReplyDeleteAll my best,

As Beth said it is an Amber Alert and I know at least one child had been brought home in our County after it was issued. While I was there I typed in my zip and got my forecast. I didn't know that site existed.
