Remembering Today - 31 January

On this day in the First World War, this man from the Isle of Lewis lost his life in the service of King & Country. RIP.

Regiment or division: Merchant Marine
Date of death: 31 January 1919 at the age of 47
Died at home
Invalided October 1916 with pulmonary trouble
Was sailing on the Australian Coast and received his Master's Certificate in 1911.

    What a handsome guy. It's strange to think of someone dying of something that antibiotics may have cured. Oh, I'm so glad we live in this day & age. Linda in Washington
